Discover Dubrovnik
Travel affects people in many different ways. For some, it’s simply another holiday; for others, it’s an experience that stays with you for a lifetime. Most travelers typically list one or two places that have left a lasting impression on them. And for me, my travels to Dubrovnik fit this perfectly.
Dubrovnik – a town with a view
Traveling in mid October’s an ideal time to visit. You still get plenty of sunshine, which only adds to the beauty of the Dubrovnik Riviera. Approximately 30 minutes drive from the airport, I challenge anyone not to be captivated by the passing scenery.
Mountainous ranges proudly showcase different shades of light and dark greys, with plenty of high-rise Evergreens.
Dubrovnik – where to stay
We stayed at Radisson Blu Dubrovnik, which is within walking distance of the Old Town. It’s a good choice, especially if you’re keen on elegant accommodation and breathtaking views. Take some time to sit outside and watch the views of the endless blue sea with the islands in the distance.

Dubrovnik – Visiting Old Town
When traveling to Dubrovnik, there’s no doubt that Old Town is the main attraction of the area. I highly advise spending a day familiarizing yourself with its charming streets and getting lost in the side alleys, as well as the climbing the city walls. It’s probably one of the highlights from my time at Old Town, and I can’t recommend it enough.
During my discovery period, I came across an old misshapen wooden door, which few people were walking through. Naturally curious, I followed them and was overwhelmed with what I found.
The door led me to a view that I can only describe as phenomenal. The sea breeze catches you as you stand in the direct sunlight, and you have to adjust your eyes to capture exactly what’s in front. You’re able to see the best view of Old Town, and from an entirely new angle.
Dubrovink – the best Buza in Old Town
After the magnificent views, it was hard to imagine that anything could top it. However, we came across a bar that led down to the shore called Buza, claiming to have the best views in town. As we sat there sipping on an ice cold drink taking in the entire scene, the reality backed up the claim.
Dubrovnik definitely lived up to its picture postcard perfect status, and more. With the advent of Game of Thrones, the city continues to attract even more visitors. So, yes, it’s far from being off the beaten track, but don’t let that stop you seeing the charming city for yourself.
I was just in Dubrovnik this summer and loved it! We stayed a bit outside of Dubrovnik and I think next time we go back, I’d like to stay in the city centre. I also want to visit Buza Bar next time and do some cliff jumping!
Ooh you’re brave! I don’t know about cliff jumping, but the Buza Bar is great for soaking up the atmosphere 🙂
Dubrovnik is like a dreamy place and still not on radar of many people. It is an offbeat destination for sure. The picture postcard perfect images that you shared here makes me want to pack my bags and go there immediately. Buza sounds charming.
Unfortunately it hasn’t been an offbeat destination for many years. The rise of GoT has made it even more popular, but it’s still a lovely place to see, and I urge everyone to go at least once!
I have visited Dubrovnik a few years ago, when it wasn’t known as the filming location for King’s Landing, in Game of Thrones. Even then it was really crowded and while I enjoyed strolling around alone, at 6 am in the morning (that’s when my bus arrives), I changed my mind once the cruisers arrived in town. However, I did enjoy strolling around on the walls of the city and I do remember that bar with the spectacular view over the sea.
I know what you mean Joanna. When I went, I never knew about GoT, which is a good thing as I’m a big fan now! I’m glad I’ve seen it as it’s still a marvellous place.
This is probably the 4th or 5th blogs in recent times to write about Dubrovnik. Everyone seems to be heading towards Croatia these days, but you can’t blame though, GoT has such an effect worldwide! Lolz…
Thanks for the tips about where to stay and best time to visit. The Old Town has such a charm. Hope I’ll get to visit soon.
I hope so too! Yes, the GoT effect has got everyone heading there, more so now than before!
In choosing a place to stay, one of my consideration also is the accessibility. And looks you got some decent accommodation where it’s just a walking distance from the Old Town with a great views!
I agree with you! It’s a great location with plenty of places nearby to stay. See it for yourself!
