The first thing I should tell you about one of the best dog friendly NYC hotels is its excellent central location.

Crosby Street Hotel, a dog-friendly hotel in New York City, sits behind Broadway in between Spring and Prince metro stations.

Its popular position in SoHo in New York City sets the scene perfectly. Surrounding streets within close proximity of the hotel thrive with independent cafes and restaurants.

Walk one way to browse local shops; walk the other to merge with regular New Yorkers and the mainstream.

Background to one of the best dog friendly NYC hotels

The Crosby Street Hotel NYC belongs to Firmdale Hotels, a British company that have 10 boutique hotels in their portfolio. Eight are in London, and the other 2 are in New York.

Co-owner and creative director, Kit Kemp, has accumulated countless accolades for her interior design and it’s easy to see why.

Their London luxury boutique hotels include Charlotte Street Hotel and the Covent Garden Hotel, both holding a 5-star rating.

Similar to their New York counterparts, they’re in central locations and within easy walking distance of top London attractions.

The exquisite decor

It’s hard to miss the Crosby Street Hotel. A large black cat sculpture stands proudly outside on all fours, poised to welcome guests.

It’s one of many animal-themed décor you’ll see around the building and there’s good reason for this. Once inside its main entrance, you step into the lobby.

Resembling more of a gallery than a hotel guest area, there are more eye-catching animal sculptures and installations to view.

Stylish comfort — Dog friendly NYC hotels

With 86 rooms and suites in total, no 2 are the same. The interiors reflect Kit’s personal style, which I’d describe as a mixture of modern English and romantic.

The Crosby Street Hotel has 13 types of accommodation, all following the ethos of ‘elegant, comfortable and colorful’ design. Rooms differ in size and budget, and there’s something to suit all types of travelers. As well as luxury and deluxe rooms, there’s also luxury junior suites and at the top end, 2-bedroom suites.

If you’re a solo traveler and new to the city, you may be interested in joining a local tour. I visited the New York One World Observatory, skipped the lines and took in some of the best views of the city.

The individual room design

One feature I tend to associate with New York properties is the abundance of warehouse style buildings.

The deluxe top floor room combines a warehouse style with its floor-to-ceiling windows, with the stylish comforts of a luxury boutique hotel. Its grid panels allow for plenty of natural light, and a stretching view of Manhattan from the 11th floor.

Measuring at 360 sq ft, the deluxe top floor room is a generous size for NYC. An understated elegance runs throughout the room, with no detail left un-turned.

The most striking feature, however, is the matching headboard attached to the king-sized bed and mannequin.

It’s a trademark of each room, and following the hotel’s design concept, no 2 sets are the same. As the photos show, the designs are bold, colorful, and unique to the Crosby Street Hotel.

The small touches

The marble and granite bathroom gleams upon entering. Our room had 2 basins — perfect for couples and families — and a large walk-in shower. The choice of toiletries also reinforces the boutique experience, with shampoo and conditioners from RIKRAK by Kit Kemp.

If you love the combination of lavender and eucalyptus, you’re in for a bath time treat. All rooms come with complimentary WiFi, flat screen TVs and Bluetooth Bose speakers.

The luxurious, and generous-sized, suites

Spacious, light and with high ceilings, a deluxe 1-bedroom suite is large enough to accommodate a family, couple or friends. Like the deluxe top floor room, it’s kitted with full length windows and a unique headboard and mannequin set.

Where the suite’s different is the added extras inside the room. Each 750 sq ft suite has its own dining room and living area.

The bedroom opens onto the living room, and the sofa can double up as a bed. It perfectly emulates the feeling of a home away from home, and is so comfortable, you won’t want to leave.

Luxury bath times

The bathroom’s a gorgeous mix of granite and oak, with a deep bath tub and 2 basins. As with the deluxe top floor room, you’ll also find the exclusive range of RIKRAK by Kit Kemp toiletries.

Guests staying in any of the bedroom suites are also treated to a few extra privileges. These include, in-suite check-in, an unpacking service either on arrival or departure, fresh flowers, and a welcome gift.

Furry friends are welcome

As the title of this post says, the Crosby Street Hotel is pet friendly. They’re more than welcoming to guests and their beloved pooches.

Bring them along — dog friendly hotels NYC

The signs that its owners love dogs are everywhere. From the dog sculptures in the lobby, to dog paintings in the drawing room and elevators, the theme is evident.

The dog-friendly hospitality also extends to the bedrooms, where dogs are given their own blankets, toys, and treats.

Its equally cool and colorful bar

It’s hard to miss the colorful Warhol-esque mural of Queen Elizabeth II as you enter the Crosby Bar. The mural pays homage to the hotel’s British roots, but is also fitting as it relates to an impressive achievement.

British design

Firmdale Group won the prestigious Queen’s Award in 2018 for their outstanding achievements in international trade, and quite deserving too.

Although the name has ‘bar’ in its title, it serves everything from breakfast and brunch, to coffee and cocktails. The Crosby Bar also serves a decadent afternoon tea — another long-standing British tradition.

If you happen to visit during summer, be sure to book a table on the Crosby Terrace. It’s only open during the warmer months, and is a leafy oasis for guests to enjoy the New York sunshine.

The drawing room and secret garden

Just when you think the hotel can’t impress any further, you come across 2 more exceptional guest areas. The drawing room’s my idea of a perfect living space, and size.

Deep sofas in an array of multi-color hues and patterns, and carefully selected pieces of art adorn the rectangular-shaped room. It’s a place where you can relax, read a book, or have a quiet drink at the bar.

A leafy sanctuary for guests to enjoy, the sculpture garden’s an outdoor space, with ample seating and shaded spaces. Despite being in the middle of the busy SoHo area, I heard little noise from beyond the hotel’s walls.

Movie nights in the screening room

Why go to the movies when it can come to you? From all the boutique hotels I’ve ever visited, I’ve never come across one with its very own theatre.

Dinner and a movie — dog friendly NYC hotels

The Crosby Street Hotel state-of-the-art screening room has 99 seats with 3D digital capabilities. Every Sunday, they’ve a film club that’s open to guests and the public too.

You can choose from a 3-course dinner and movie ticket, or a cocktail, bar plate and movie. Sadly, the room was being used for a private event when I was there, so I couldn’t visit. What do you think of the Crosby Street Hotel?

The centre of the attraction is certainly the courtyard and the drawing room. The interior is amazingly beautiful. I have never had an opportunity to design a pet-friendly hotel but I ever get one, this is going to be my case study.

  3. Ami Bhat says:

Seems like a luxury in a perfect location. The interiors are plush yet not overwhelming. Definitely helps you feel comfortable. I like the idea of the local tours. Is that complimentary or does one have to opt for it separately?
