Is there a worst time to visit Italy? This post reveals when you should avoid visiting the country.
The worst time to visit Italy is August. The peak of summer, there are many reasons why you should avoid it.
Like many popular destinations, August in Italy is typically vacation time. And for some Italians, this means taking off the entire month.
Unless you escape to the Dolomites or far north, August in Italy can be unbearably hot. In Sicily, temperatures can reach up to 42°C (107.6°F).
Because August is vacation month in Italy, everything is more expensive. If you plan to visit, be sure to book flights, hotels etc well in advance.
Another reason why August is best avoided is Ferragosto. The public holiday takes place every 15 August and many shops and services close a few days before and on the holiday.
