Madada Mogador boutique hotel
Last updated on February 4th, 2026.
We spent one day and night visiting the coastal town of Essaouira.
Situated on the west coast of Morocco, visitors are attracted to Essouira for its beach, its history and the seafood.
We traveled in October with the weather still mild, and the sea breeze providing a welcome respite from the heat.
We were also lucky to secure accommodation in the chicest boutique hotel in town, Madada Mogador.
Days gone by
Mogador was the former name of Essaouira. The current name means ‘the little rampart,’ which refers to the fortress walls around the city.
An excellent location, the hotel’s right in the heart of the walled city. Within minutes' walk of the hotel are the main attractions in Essaouira. Travelers arriving by car can rest easy knowing there’s a safe and secure parking area nearby.
In case you need a little more persuading, here are 4 good reasons to choose Madada Mogador when visiting Essaouira.
4 excellent reasons to book at Madada Mogador
1. Spacious accommodation
The entrance to Madada Mogador is down a narrow alley and just before you reach the restaurant Le Table.
Book to stay at Madada Mogador
From the outside, you’d be forgiven for not being overly impressed. It shares its main door with another riad and our first impressions admittedly weren't great.
However, our minds would quickly be changed the second we laid eyes on our room.
The wow factor
Upon entering, I immediately recognized traits that you'd usually associate with boutique hotels. A unique and elegant reception lobby with colorful artwork adorning the walls.
As we were led through the open kitchen area, we'd no idea what was waiting for us.
Eventually, we came across two doors, one of them being our room for our stay in Essaouira.
Our mouths dropped as the member of staff opened the door and welcomed us inside.
It turned out that our 'suite' was a 2-bedroom apartment. It came complete with a kitchen, dining area and 2 bathrooms.

2. Comfortable furnishings
There are 9 types of accommodation available at Madada Mogador, and bookings fill up quickly. They include 5 ocean view rooms and suites, 2 standard rooms, 1 superior room and our loft suite.
Plenty of room
The Ramparts Side Loft Suite has plenty of space, floor-to-ceiling windows and a view of the ramparts and garden. Inside the loft suite is a:
- Living area
- Dining area
- Kitchen
- Desk/work space
- Separate toilet/bathroom on the ground floor
- Staircase leading up the master bedroom
- A second bedroom with en-suite bathroom and amenities
The hotel website says it can accommodate 2 to 4 people but I think you can stretch it to 6. Whether a short, or long-term stay, it’s a stunning luxury boutique hotel to consider booking when in Essaouira.
3. Right by the best seafood restaurant in town
If you can get a reservation, be sure to book a table at the hotel’s restaurant, La Table by Madada.
It’s not only just downstairs, but it’s one of the highest rated seafood and fish restaurants in Essaouira. Being right by the harbor, you can smell the freshness of the catch once you step out into the alley.
Unfortunately, we were too late to secure a reservation. However, should we return to Essaouira, we'll know to book in advance to try it for ourselves.
4. Breakfast with a sea view
Mornings begin at Madada Mogador with breakfast on the terrace.
We were also given the choice to sit inside but the blue skies and sunshine made our decision an easy one.
Overlooking the sea and having breakfast on the terrace was the best way to start the day. Even the swarm of bees hovering around us as we ate did little to dampen the mood.
We breathed in the sea air and let the gentle breeze cool our bare arms. It was the perfect end to our time in Essaouira.
Would we stay again at Madada Mogador?
If it wasn't blindingly clear, we'd absolutely stay again at Madada Mogador. It was the perfect base in Essaouira and we'd highly recommend it to others planning on visiting.
From the personal service, to the elegantly designed suite, it’s one place where you’ll really feel at home.
What do you think of Madada Mogador? Would you like to stay at the Rampart loft-suite? Let me know in the comments below.

It was wonderful! I loved every second 😀
I haven't been to Morocco yet, so this is perfect! I'll have to keep the Madada Mogador in mind. The breakfast on the terrace sounds so lovely! And the rooms are so spacious for a boutique hotel!
It's pretty incredible! Definitely consider it if you get to Morocco one day.
OMG this hotel looks amazing. Your photos are just great for getting a good view of the room, thanks so much for sharing, will be quick on the mouse to book this one for sure!
I hope you enjoy it! We loved the place so much; book a table at their restaurant too!
Bummer you missed out on the restaurant dining! I loveeeee seafood and am sucker for good views too. I've never thought to visit this part of Morocco, but would definitely love to and stay at a lovely boutique hotel like this one!
Great to read! Madada Mogador is such a wonderful hotel, and the location is perfect for Essaouira too.
Wow! This place looks like it's bigger than my apartment. It's gorgeous and I love the design. Even better that you don't have to go far to eat the best seafood in town. I love it when I can just walk downstairs for a lovely meal 🙂
It's bigger than mine too! I'd like to return to try the restaurant, the reviews are really good!
October is a great time to see this country! The room you booked was really palatial so you must have had plenty of space to stretch out in. What a place! Seafood on the terrace sounds delish, so it's a shame you didn't get a chance to go.
Tell me about it! I'd love to return just to try it; the reviews are excellent.
When I saw this photo at first, I thought this has to be a hotel room in Morocco, and so it is! What a beautiful place and great room interior. Funny to hear you were led through the kitchen area to your room. Breakfast on the terrace sounds great! It all sounds like a great experience!
It was an incredible experience! We loved the breakfast on the terrace with a view of the Essaouira coast too; just blissful!
Oh I am going to remember this place for my visit to Morocco next year. It looks like an elegant place and delicious seafood, yes please!!!
It's such a wonderful boutique, and in a central location too!
My god Lisa, this place looks AMAZING!! So much detail has gone into the decor, and your review 🙂 I am adding Essaouira to my travel list for 2018, so may have to follow your lead and stay here, it looks perfect x
Aww Becca, that's so wonderful to read, you'll absolutely love Madada Mogador! I had such a memorable time there, and I'm sure you will too.
Goodness! This place looks incredible! I'm making a note of this because I'm dying to go to Essaouria. Thanks for sharing 🙂
I hope you have a good time, I'll be writing next about Essaouira!
I heard so much about Essaouira whilst I was in Morocco but didn't end up visiting. Next time I am in Morocco I would love to stay at this boutique hotel. It looks so cosy, and as I studied interior design I'm in love! Love the colourful tiles <3
Thanks Anita! It's very colourful, and actually, I'll be writing about whether it's worth visiting Essaouira soon 😉
It really is bigger than my apartment. I would love to chill at this suite while enjoying the beautiful scenery outside. What a great find 🙂
Thank you! It's beautiful, big and a must stay if visiting Essaouira
That is a very fancy hotel. I could picture myself lounging on the deck with a beverage in my hand enjoying that view. I agree it is good to get a place with a nice kitchen. It gives you the freedom to have a home cooked dinner or light lunch. Both can be very welcome when overloaded with travel food decadence.
Thanks for posting this I love reading accommodation reviews.
Thank you Anthony for your thoughtful comment! I couldn't have said it better myself, and will definitely continue blogging 🙂
Size of the room vs what you pay is often why we love boutique hotels. It feels so homey and the price is incredible for so much space (not always the case, but in this hotel it definitely is!) This hotel is so adorable, good choice!
I totally understand what you mean. Boutique hotels are known for its warmth, and personal style 🙂 Thanks for dropping by, I appreciate it!
I love the feel at atmosphere its nicer than some of those but g chain hotels. That hotel looks nice and its always good to travel during off peak season to get nice hotel deals
Thank you!
What a beautiful room! It's always nice to be able to see the over the top suites that hotels offer but it's another thing to be able to stay in them. I would not do well with the bee.s so I would definitely opt for the inside breakfast but it would be hard to pass up the view.
Haha, I was exactly the same, don't worry! I totally agree about the view, it's impressive.
What an outrageous amount of luxury! You must have felt like royalty. I can’t even imagine staying in a place like that - I’d never want to leave!
It's pretty awesome having a loft apartment all to ourselves!
I love the multi-level accommodations of the Madada Mogador boutique. The dining options looks incredible too. Ive never been to Morocco but would love to visit this boutique hotel when I do visit.
It's a wonderful hotel, and you'll have such a memorable experience if you choose to stay here!
I always prefer to find accommodations with a kitchen. It's the best way to get budget-friendly and healthy meals. And floor to ceiling windows to take in the view - this sounds like THE place to stay!
It's an excellent choice for Essaouira, and the loft suite is a perfect choice if travelling in groups or with families!
I love boutique hotels like that. They always very clean, stylish and charming. The balcony of that restaurant is just amazing! What a great view! I can't wait to visit Morocco one day! Ive heard so much about it !
Aww you must visit Morocco, it's a great place and with many amazing views!
I know we all, especially me, use the word quaint very loosely, but this is certainly a quaint and charming little hotel. Love how the rooms looks and the decor is very regional and classy without overcrowding the space and that is quite a lot of space too. The little decorative pieces certainly add to the charm and the roof-top space must make the evening truly special.
You're absolutely right, and the terrace is a lovely place to take in the atmosphere and a glass of wine too!
A nice blend of old and local charm with contemporary styles. It looks quite comfortable to stay in as well. Not too huge nor too small. Nice pictures.
Thank you! It's a pretty hotel and so personal in service and design too 🙂
This place looks simply amazing! I love the modern style reflecting - at the same time - the typical Moroccan elements. I will check it when I'll be in Essaouira, probably next summer! 🙂
That's great to hear! Essaouira's a coastal place, so summer's a perfect time to visit!
This looks like a great place to stay. My time in Essouira was in a very different accommodation - although it was some time ago! I can recommend a long walk on the beach to the castle in the sand that must surely have inspired Hendrix to write his song.
I'm not familiar with the song, but now I'll definitely look it up! I hope the post brought back some good memories of Essaouira for you!
What a sweet suite! That's kinda funny that they took you through a kitchen, I would have been very curious after that. Too bad you didn't get to try La Table!
Tell me about it, ah well I'll need to return 😛 The kitchen was very homey at least!
Haha! Totally!!! The suite is definitely bigger than my current studio apartment! Lolz..
What??? It has a staircase leading to the master bedroom? The full fledged kitchen??? Whoa! That's awesome!!!
That makes two of us then so far! Seriously, this loft suite is huge, big enough for 6!
The line – A suite bigger than your home’ intrigued me and made me read this blog. It sure looks grand and classy. I like the interiors. It’s luxurious and yet minimalist.
Thank you for reading! Yes, it's a choice place for a stay in Essaouira and I'd recommend it any day.
That's a great review you have here. I've never been to Morocco's Modada Mogador boutique hotel but I'm convinced I'd stay here if I ever get to visit Morocco. I love my bedroom with enough space to accommodate my untidiness when I unpack. Also, the seafood is just too tempting and calling to ignore. Sure they'd work on way to reduce the bee-factor with time if not, I'm scared I might have to miss the beauty of a breakfast on the terrace.
Thank you! Yes, the bee factor was a little too much for me in the morning, so I opted to take a coffee instead and watch the sea view 😀 It's a stunning boutique, and the service is first-class.
I love hotels and this one looks amazing! We had a similar place in Costa Rica, over 2000 square feet of space with a yard and pool. I usually steer clear of hotels that call themselves boutique but this one looks phenomenal!
Aw I can promise that you'll really like Madada Mogador. The interior is stunning and the service just first class!
Oh my! How absolutely beautiful is the Madada Mogador Boutique Hotel! Morocco itself is so intriguing, and this hotel has really brought the essence of Morocco into their hotel and your room. The tiling in the bathroom is just amazing, I love all the colors and the patterns. The seafood restaurant also sounds delicious - totally will have to check this place out. Hope to tick Morocco off my bucket list soon!
Aw that's great to hear. The hotel's beautiful and being a foodie, you need to go and book a reservation at La Table 🙂
Morocco has been on my travel wishlist forever, and I'm dying to go to Essouira. This hotel looks amazing. It's always great to stay somewhere so central to all the attractions. I could certainly get used to staying in a gorgeous loft suite like this.
Ah, so you need to go soon! Essaouira is that kind of place with a great balance between history and culture. I hope you get to visit soon!
Wish I'd stay very for a whole week visiting the area! Haha! And they also go the best sea food restaurant, so what more should I ask? Ah, and the ocean view, please.
Thanks for sharing!
You're welcome! It's a great choice for Essaouira and a luxury stay for the town.
I love the design of the hotel! I always prefer to stay at accommodation that gives you a sense of the destination. From the photos, I knew immediately that it was located Morocco. What a beautiful place.
It's pretty wonderful right?! I'm exactly the same and would return in an instant 😀
Wow this hotel room dropped open my mouth too...my goodness it actually is more of a home!! The decor, the dining area what else would we need if we get this kind of hotel 😀 Breakfast on terrace is a plus for me, as I love to enjoy the morning breeze while enjoying my breakfast 🙂
You have to imagine seeing it in person, it's even more beautiful! And yes, breakfast on the terrace is pretty awesome!
What a lovely hotel! Location is super important to me so I like that it is located in the center of the walled city. Would love to stay here if I visit Essaouira.
You'll be so happy here, and get to explore the best sights of Essouira that are so close 😀
Okay this is gorgeous and I would love to stay here. I've never been, but pictures of Morocco have always fascinated me with the beauty of Moroccan art, architecture and colours. I hope to visit one day and will look into staying here.
That's brilliant to read, you won't be disappointed here!
Wow .. This hotel looks paradise and do give some stay goals .. Luv the breakfast in the terrace part of it and so many food choices .. Would luv to stay there on my next visit ..
It's a fantastic place and somewhere luxurious to stay in the town!
I was in Essaouira two years ago. I didn't know about Madada Mogador boutique hotel and I stayed in a traditional riad. But it is nice to see that Madaba Mogador is a fantastic mix between the traditional Moroccan architecture and the modern one. The rooms have a modern interior design and the comfort is a high class one.
You've got it to a T! It's an amazing place and I'd recommend it to anyone wanting to visit Essaouira.
Oh my word I want to move in now. What a gorgeous space and I hope I can afford to book it when I travel to Morocco what a dream come true. In fact I am thinking of decorating my apartment like this...lol. So beautiful and you had me completely when you mentioned the restaurant - seafood I am in.
Haha, I don't blame you, it's very elegant here! And yes, don't miss out on booking the restaurant, I did and regret it everyday!
There is something about space when you travel and stay in accommodation that just spells luxury. Normally the typical room you get (even suites) are very small compared to what you managed to secure there. This would be such a wonderful place to base yourself from as you explore the magic of this region of Morocco. Talk about taking a boutique hotel experience to a whole new level...just wonderful.
Thanks Nicole, it's a spectacular hotel, and a luxury choice if you stay in this coastal town.
This boutique hotel is so beautiful. I loved the antique looking typewriter on the desk.
The chandelier gives the suite a very royal look 🙂 Hope you had a great time
We had a wonderful time! It's the perfect place to stay in Essouira 😀
The suite room of Madada Mogador boutique hotel looks so spacious and have a stylish decor. Those rustic wood table and cane wardrobe adds warmth to this room. I would opt for ocean view room. It looks like, you are exploring Morocco fully.
Oh yes, it's that kind of country where you can't help yourself! And Madada Mogador is a very special place to stay in Essaouira 🙂
What a lovely boutique hotel! It's so spacious and chic! We did a day trip to Essaouira from Marrakech and didn't get the chance to eat at La Table by Madada. We heard great reviews for this restaurant. Breakfast with a view!
Aw that's a shame too, because I heard everyone talking about it in Essaouira!
I completely loved the interiors of the boutique hotel. Loved what you said - small from outside, big from inside. Madada Mogador is surely on my list while visiting Essaouira. I am sure I would love the breakfast scenes on the terrace. Awesome post!
Aw thank you! It's a stunning boutique hotel, and a great choice if visiting Essaouira.
I have never been to Maroco and Essaouira does sound like a great place to chill...especially if you stay in Madada Mogador! Gorgeous boutique hotel! It is bigger that mine flat awell! And I love seafood so I guess I need to book a table with a room!
Yes! We were so disappointed that we couldn't get a reservation on the night, the food looks amazing!
Wow. This place looks amazing. Why have I not gone here before? Adding this to my to-go-to places.
Thanks for commenting!
HOLY SMOKES this hotel looks incredible! I would LOVE to stay there sometime! Definitely bookmarking it and putting it on my bucket list! Even my husband would agree with this one!
That's great Chloe! You and your husband will really enjoy this place, it's in a great location, and huge enough for 2 families!
I just LOVE the look of this hotel and the multi-level set up makes the room look so much more spacious and luxurious! I didn't get a chance to go to Essaouira last time I was in Morocco, so I will be sure to check it out next time and stay at this hotel! Thanks for sharing about this gem!
Aww you'll love this place, it's not just boutique, but it's very personal and with only 8 rooms! Remember it for when you're next in Morocco 😀
