There’s something special about being in the mountains in the winter.
The biting temperatures contrasting with the winter sunshine, and the dazzling specks of snow demanding your attention.
Typically, you’ll find us somewhere in the Dolomites. But for a change, we decided to try a Meribel skiing holiday. Booking a ski in ski out holiday with Mark Warner ensures staying at the best ski resorts, and in spectacular surroundings.
What’s more, their hotels are located right by the slopes, with all flights and transfers included. The hardest part is choosing which ski resort is right for you.
With that said, here are 5 good reasons why Meribel deserves a closer look.

1. The location
The French ski resort of Méribel is located in the center of the largest ski area in the world.
The 3 Valleys (3 Vallées) has 600km of piste, with pretty chalet lodging and tree-lined slopes. Along with skiing, outdoor lovers can enjoy long walks in the surrounding forests, or the panoramic mountain views.
More than skiing
Boutique clothes shops will satisfy fashion-conscious shoppers, and there are plenty of restaurants and bars to ensure everyone’s happy. Ultimately, you’re sure to have a memorable Meribel skiing holiday.
The nearest airport to the resort is Chambery, which is around 95km away. Lyon and Geneva are the 2 closest major international airports to Meribel with daily flights.
2. Skiing utopia
If you can’t wait to get on the slopes, Mark Warner can pre-book passes upon booking your trip. They’ll be ready to collect at the hotel the moment you check in.
What’s more, they can also provide ski equipment for hire. Reserve quality equipment from one of their selected partners, and concentrate on having the best possible experience on the snow.
Improve your skills
Regardless of whether you’re an amateur skier, or just beginning, you may be interested in taking a few skiing lessons. In Méribel, they partner with Oxygene, a leading school in the French Alps.
They can teach everything from the basics, refresh your memory or help you improve on your parallel turns.
3. Plenty of socializing opportunities
What I love about Méribel is that there’s more to do in this town than just ski. This lively alpine resort is ideal for Après ski as well as for socializing with friends in the evening.
Along with several restaurants in the center of town, there’s also an indoor swimming pool and ice-skating rink. Skiers are bound to get maximum slope time at Meribel.
Take a day trip
Given its high altitude, Meribel has snow-sure conditions meaning an abundance of snow on the pistes.
From Meribel, you can also visit the town of Mottaret. There’s a free resort bus service that’ll take you to the several bars and restaurants if you fancy a change.
4. Chalet Loden
There are several options for hotels in Meribel, but I've got 2 great picks; the first being Chalet Loden. This boutique ski lodge offers unspoiled views over the village of Méribel, with easy access to the slopes.
A traditional chalet with elegant rooms and excellent fine dining, Chalet Loden can accommodate 12 guests.
Luxury touches
To add to the boutique experience, the chalet has 2 live in staff and a resident chef.
The staff will prepare a freshly cooked breakfast, and have afternoon tea when you return.
In the evening, enjoy canapés by the log fire, followed by a luxurious 3-course dinner. The meal’s accompanied by an excellent selection of wines and to finish, a local cheeseboard.

I have only been to Austria for skiing, but haven't been in years and having major withdrawal symptoms, specially after reading your post! Your photos are absolutely incredible, i'd be really interested to know what camera you use. If i could take photo half as great as these i'd be way chuffed!

Meribel looks such a beautiful destination for the winters. I was totally captivated by the first few photographs of the place. The place sure looks like skiing heaven. I have never done skiing before, but if a place is such beautiful like this, I would be tempted to try it definitely!

Beautiful Pictures looks like an amazing place. I love how they provide warm evening tea after you return from skiing. Fresh breakfast and a three course dinner all sounds really good and delicious. I would love to visit.

I wish I knew how to ski Lisa! Nevertheless, I completely agree with what you say - it is amazing to visit a place like this in the winter, blanketed with snow and the gorgeous winter sun outside. And even though I cannot ski, I would totally love to stay in a chalet like this, take a dip in the indoor pool and relax with some friends over a cup of hot chocolate overlooking those lovely snowy mountains!

I don't know how to ski but this resort looks amazing to visit anyway just for the chance to visit such a beautiful place and to play in the snow, plus I like that it is close to an airport.

This looks amazing with the sun shine and everything! I have always dreamed about a ski trip in Europe but it has not come true yet. So far, I have only been skiing in my home country Finland where it is quite cold and dark during winters. This looks so much fun and you can practically ski straight to your hotel, love it!

I have never tried a ski holiday till now but one which is on my list and to do next year. As per your post January surely seems to be a great time to visit the slopes with the crisp winter sun and plentiful snow. Meribel looks perfect holiday destination for winters. Looks like a fairy tale town located on the beautiful Alps. It is good that they have nice restaurants on top for spending a lovely time with friends and family during the evenings. Chalet Loden's cozy seating area with fireplace looks worth and also its bedroom with view of snowy hills are enchanting.

We love skiing and are often talking about skiing in Europe. Unfortunately it's very difficult to take all our ski equipment overseas. I've never heard of Méribel. This ski resort looks like out of fairytale. How beautiful to spend a winter holiday there.
The snow is as powdery and as white as the photos! You can hire your equipment and have it waiting for you at the resort if you wish 🙂
I have never skied in France only Italy in Europe. Meribel looks a fun and interesting resort area to ski. If I was to book Mark Warner accommodation looks like the ideal accommodation with their resorts close to the ski fields. The Chalets look beautiful. Thanks for the informative article.
