10 warm places to visit in February in USA
Last updated on February 10th, 2026.
Winter, for me, is typically a time of hibernation.
Staying warm indoors and surrounding myself with cozy blankets and comfort food is my number one M.O.
And, as much as I enjoy Christmas and the wintry weather that comes with it, by February I’m ready for a change.
With Christmas long behind us, and spring a month or two away, a winter sun vacation is a good option.
Plenty of choice
When it comes to warm places to visit in February, you can do no wrong in the US.
This mighty nation is blessed with an abundance of cities and coastal towns where winter sunshine is the norm. If you’re in urgent need of some Vitamin D (and sea), these places will hit the right spot.
From Florida and Hawaii to southern California, here are 10 warm places to visit within the US in February.
10 warm places to visit in February in USA
1. Miami, Florida
This vibrant city in southern Florida needs no introduction. With average high temperatures of 78°F / 26°C in February, Miami consistently tops the US’ list for its warm weather.
Blessed by bountiful beaches and a year-round summer vibe, booking a winter getaway to Miami is always a good idea.
While Miami Beach is where most visitors flock to, there are other beachy contenders worthy of a second look. Crandon Park has a 2-mile stretch of sandy beach, plus walking trails and a picnic area.
For a crowd-free experience, Sunny Isles Beach is a good bet. Clean waters and a peaceful setting, it’s as good as its name suggests.
Where to stay in Miami
Choices on where to stay in Miami are seemingly endless. To narrow it down, I’ve chosen 2 options: 1 mid-range and 1 luxury hotel.
An Italian-style villa located 1 block from Bal Harbor Beach, Sun Harbour Boutique Hotel is an affordable choice for Miami. Comfortable rooms, and a pool on site, the hotel’s also within close distance to the nearby boutique shops.
Overlooking the ocean, 1 Hotel South Beach epitomizes everything you expect from a hotel in Miami. The 4-star hotel boasts 4 swimming pools, a spa and wellness center. Restaurants and the best nightlife in South Beach is just 5 minutes from the property by car.
2. Sarasota, Florida
Get used to several mentions about Florida, as there are a few Floridian cities in this post.
Located in southwestern Florida, the city of Sarasota combines the best of both worlds. Offering beaches as well as cultural attractions, Sarasota makes a great family destination.
Some landmarks to note include the Ringling Museum, housed in a renaissance-style building, and the Asolo Repertory Theatre. The latter hosts a variety of shows from family-friendly musicals to plays for serious literary buffs.
More to see in Sarasota
In February, the average temperatures sit somewhere along a very pleasant 73.9°F (23°C).
Surrounded by barrier islands with an abundance of white sands and crystal blue water, winter will be a distant memory. Sarasota contains several keys, including Lido Key, Bird Key and Siesta Key, creating plenty of opportunities for day trips.

3. St. Augustine, Florida
Holding the title of the oldest European-established settlement in the continental US, St. Augustine mixes warm weather with history.
Walking along its 400+ year old cobbled streets, you’d be forgiven for thinking you were somewhere in Europe. St. Augustine’s main attractions aren’t only confined to its Spanish colonial buildings in the Colonial Quarter.
The city boasts a total of 42 miles of beach, with Crescent and Vilano Beach just two of several in the region.
Average high temperatures hover around 70°F (21°C), making St. Augustine slightly cooler than its Floridian neighbors. However, what it lacks in a few degrees temperature drop, it more than makes up for in charm.
Where to stay in St. Augustine
Stay in the heart of the historic old town in St. Augustine at Villa 1565. Located opposite one of the city’s main sights, the Fountain of Youth, and a trolley stop, it’s an ideal choice for first-time visitors.
Spend a few nights at this beautiful beachfront property opposite Vilano Beach. The Saint Augustine Beach House has a balcony overlooking the ocean, and is also dog friendly. St. Augustine lighthouse is 10 minutes by car while Castillo De San Marcos is just 5 minutes away.
4. San Diego, California
Known for its year-round warm climate, beaches, parks and feel-good vibes, there’s always a good reason to visit San Diego.
Sitting adjacent to the Mexican border, a strong culture remains in the city that was once part of the Mexican Empire. The Old Town San Diego State Historic Park and Chicano Park are two such examples of Mexican landmarks.
When it comes to beaches, choosing which one to visit is no easy feat. Coronado Beach is ideal for swimming and surfing, while La Jolla Cove offers opportunities to swim, bathe and scuba dive.

Comfortable climes
Though February temperatures are typically lower than the norm (average highs of 66°F (19°C)), it still beats winter weather.
Cooler climes also make it more enjoyable to engage in other activities in San Diego such as hiking. Get to the top of Sunset Cliffs Natural Park to watch the sun set over San Diego. Alternatively, find a trail that suits your level of fitness at Torrey Pines State Reserve.

However, its geographic location in Micronesia in the western pacific makes Guam much more than another military base spot. Temperatures in February usually range from 77°F (25°C) to a sweltering 86°F (30°C). In short, it’s an ideal winter destination.
Its ancestral heritage and unique blend of Spanish and Polynesian cultures make Guam stand out from the rest. The capital city, Hagåtña, is home to its own Plaza De España, and stone bridges that reflect Spanish architectural influence.

Great list and lots of good ideas! I hope to be able to use some of them next winter if travel starts to resume. I visited Puerto Rico a couple years ago and absolutely loved it! I think I would like to visit Guam, I never really thought about it but you have helped me realize it is probably worth a visit. I would also love to visit Phoenix, but the summer heat was not very appealing to me. February sounds like a great time to visit! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you! I agree about Guam, its history and culture is so interesting
I am always cold! So I would love to visit these warm places in winter season ? Thanks for sharing this list, hun ?
You're welcome, so glad you enjoyed it!
t. yeWould you believe we live in Phoenix and leave for Mexico during winter when I think it is too cold? But I had not thought of Guam, Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico. Except I don't like to fly nowadays
Wow you are lucky! I wouldn't mind having those options. I don't blame you one bit for not wanting to fly.
I had been to Miami, Oahu, Puerto Rico, and San Diego and I liked the weather there. Better than the summer in India...
The weather in all these states are perfect!
This is a compact list of all the beaches and each one is better than the other. I would like to visit Hawaii some time, heard so much about its balmy beaches. And all those water activities make it a worth visit trip.
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it. I also would like to be on the beach now
Lots of great suggestions in this post! Last February we had enjoyed a mini-vacation in Marco Island, Florida after visiting Miami and it was definitely a great time to visit the region - the weather was perfect for enjoying the beach and it wasn't that crowded either. I missed visiting Sarasota during that trip and would definitely want to include it in our itinerary for next time.
Thank you so much! Florida really is blessed with great weather. I'm really in need of some sunshine right now!
This is a great list of warm places to visit in the USA. It makes me want to travel so much! Thanks for sharing.
Fingers crossed it can happen again this year 🙂
I think Florida may be the place to go It’s been really chilly here in San Diego. I’ve never been to Guam but just watched Operation Christmas Drop so it’s now on my list.
Perfect! Florida has great temperatures all year round 🙂
Miss travelling in such Corona time! Would love to travel to all these places. Beautiful read.
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it!
I'd love to visit Hawaii someday. My brother and sister in law went there a few years ago and absolutely loved it!
Great spots!
Thanks Eloise! It's such a lush and beautiful destination
I wish I could go somewhere warm right now. We have a few more months of snow to get through where I am.
It's that time of the year, after the sparkle of Christmas is over
Guam and Puerto Rico are brilliant ideas! Love that we have far-flung and exotic places within the definition of the USA...and no restrictions! Also, I always love San Diego and Florida
Thanks Annie, I think so too! And both have such interesting cultures and history too
I can't wait to travel once it is safe! These are such beautiful pics and such great information. Thanks for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Oh how I wish I were en route to Florida right now! I could certainly use some warm weather and sunshine. Sadly, I won't be traveling anywhere during this pandemic. Looking forward to venturing out again once it's all over.
It does look beautiful! Fingers crossed that this horrid pandemic can soon be behind us once and for all!
No surprise here that I'd love to visit them all! I'm partial to Guam and Hawaii, but I've always, always wanted to visit Puerto Rico after my cousin did and loved it! Love the places you recommended to stay, they all have that vacay and recharge vibe while looking super comfy!
Thanks Ashlee! I too am drawn to the territories, they have to much to offer 🙂
These are some beautiful places. I wish we were able to travel to anywhere here but sadly we're still under restrictions.
Bookmark it for the future. It gives us all something nice to look forward to 🙂
I would love to go on a February vacation this year, but for now I will have to dream as travel is not going to happen with the pandemic. I miss visiting warmer places!
I know Marysa, that will be the case for many of us. Fingers crossed that things get better soon
So many beautiful places that I have never visited before but I want to. I will have to make it out to California someday, what a beautiful place!
Southern California is spectacular, more so when it's winter everywhere else!
YOu made me want to fast forward February to visit those places. But how I wish the pandemic ends so we could at least travel safely
Thank you! Yes, February will be here sooner than you realise, I hope so too
I love it. I have been to almost all of these cities except Guam and Hawaii, but I have to say that I am partial to San Juan, Puerto Rico. My little island is gorgeous!!
Aw it's ok to be a little biased! It's a beautiful island and with great weather too
It would be nice to visit any of these places right now. We had a bit of snow this morning and temperatures are due to fall to minus 7 degrees Celsius. I have never heard of South Padre Island which looks intriguing.
Wow, -7?? I'm sure you're more than ready for some sunshine come February. South Padre Island is worth taking a look into.
Living in the USA gives such an amazing opportunity to experience different types of weather regardless of the season. Too bad Poland isn't like that! 🙂
Lol I totally agree with you Natalia. It's a very blessed nation with different climates 🙂
Great picks! There are still quite a few of them that I'd like to visit, but would definielly start with the warm Miami.
Miami is a good starting point. It's probably slightly less busier than other months too in February
I don't like the cold either so to me any of these places sound lovely with 20°C+ in winter. Especially Hawaii with those beautiful beaches.
Doesn't it look beautiful?! If not this year, let's aim for the next!
How I wish we can easily travel again. But I do love Florida in February. Stayed there with my aunt for a month.
It's the best state for the weather!
You’ve made some incredible suggestions here. I’d be happy to visit any but Texas and California are definitely on my list for one day
Thanks Jenni. Both Texas and California are excellent and warm choices!
So many amazing looking places. Even though we live in Texas and enjoy February temperature in Houston, these other places look like great places to vacation. We're currently looking at Hawaii for our 20th next December.
That would be wonderful! I really hope you get to visit next December 🙂
I could use a warm place right now. I would love to travel to a place with a beach
I could use a beach now too!
Agree with all - but love Puerto Rico and the suggestion of historic walking tours! After all, one can only spend so much time laying on a beach 😉
True Megan! Plus you still get to enjoy the warm weather while on the tour 🙂
What I wouldn't give to be able to travel to any one of these places right now! But being in France they are definitely not on the agenda for a while. If I could go to any of them it would be a toss-up between Guam and Puerto Rico I think.
Great choices Phoebe! I also am drawn to Guam, it has such an interesting culture!
All of these places sound amazing. I do hope the pandemic is mostly contained by the summer so I can travel!
I do too, fingers crossed things will get better soon 🙂
I would love to go on a warm getaway in February, somewhere on one of the beautiful islands you mentioned. Guam sounds lovely, I'd like to visit and discover the Chamorro culture.
I'm with you there Joanna. The culture, language and the food look amazing
All these places are inviting.I would like to visit any of the beach destination which I can watch beautiful sunset while spending time relaxing at the beach. 🙂
A beach right now would be amazing!
