Haha. This is super cool. Haha. I'm someone who prefers to have some heat, but too much heat makes me want to get away and that's when this list is super useful for me. Indeed Alaska tops the list, it is perfect to escape heat. Denali national park and glacier bay national park would be so perfect to do on hikes without being too hot or too cold. It looks like there are plenty of places in the States to run away from the heat of August. I didn't think that so many states had places that don't get so warm in summer, even in California. I would love to explore Alaska in summer, I can imagine the temperatures are pleasant and you get many sunny days to photograph the stunning landscape this state has.
Alaska is definitely number one. And there are places in California you have to go north!

I prefer cold weather to hot weather because I tend to perspire a lot. The USA is actually a destination on my bucket list, so I believe this is a sign that I should book a trip there right away. Equally stunning are Kenai Fjords National Park and Mount Washington. Given its tranquility, Lake Maine also appears to be a great place to unwind. There are so many places mentioned in this post, and I will bookmark it for future use.

Those are great tips for cooler parts of the US to go on vacation in August. A broad cross-section from Alaska to New Mexico or New York. A very inspiring list of places. Alaska is my favorite state, and I've been there many times, but August always rains the most, so it's a good idea to pack a raincoat. Oregon is fantastic in August, and so is Washington. I have a few more east coast states to visit that you describe. I will gladly take your advice and go to Vermont or Massachusetts. I haven't had a chance to see these places yet. I am particularly interested in Cape Cod, known for its beaches and maritime history. And I would love to visit Martha's Vineyard. It's a very inspirational list.

That’s one long post on cold places in the USA. I like cold weather, but these extreme temperatures play havoc. Despite that, I would love to visit Alaska. I would love to see GLACIER NATIONAL PARK AND YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK. Moosehead Lake for moose spotting would be high on my list too. MARTHA’S VINEYARD sounds interesting too. But there are so many places, I would bookmark your post for referrals from time to time.

This is a very interesting and inspiring list that contains so many places I'd love to visit. However, I think I would never purposely look for a cold place 😀 I'm based in northern Europe, hence, I do not have to look to much further to find a cold place. I'm rather looking for heat wherever I can find it. This being said, Alaska and Antarctica of all places are high on my list 😉

That's a lot of places to visit when the weather is cold. I would love to go to a fair few of these myself. I have wanted to go to Alaska for years. The pictures I've seen from various people that have visited have been beautiful. I like places with lovely natural scenery where there aren't too many people and buildings. I think you've mentioned some I've not heard of here so I'll have to add more to the bucket list.

I must admit that we often stay home in August and avoid the crowds all away for summer vacation. But I must admit August would be the perfect time for us to visit Alaska. We have done a cruise but want to go back for a long road trip and you have identified some great spot to visit. I like the idea of staying out of the cities so would look at spots like Lake Tahoe, Mammoth Lakes and off season ski resort towns like Aspen. Minnesota and Vermont really are easy trips from Toronto and one day we will get there. August sounds perfect.
I am exactly the same. But I think because most people usually prefer a warm summer holiday you may get lucky in these places not just with the crowds but also the weather too 🙂
