Dominique Ansel Bakery London is tucked away in a street behind one of the busiest train stations in the city.
This café sits in one of Victoria’s chicest streets, Elizabeth Street, and is a perfect venue for all occasions. It’s also within close proximity of major attractions like Buckingham Palace and the upmarket area of Belgravia.
Whether you’re looking to spend a romantic afternoon for Valentine’s Day, or a treat for the kids, there’s something for everyone.

The famous Cronut®
If you’re a connoisseur of pastries and cakes, your taste buds are in good hands at Dominique Ansel. He won the coveted title of World’s Best Pastry Chef in 2017.
Ansel is also the face behind inventing the famous Cronut®. This croissant and donut creation has since reached global recognition, and Ansel continues to innovate in his pastry skills.
To date, there are 4 branches of the bakery worldwide. Two in New York City, one in Las Vegas and the other in Hong Kong.
As mentioned at the beginning of the article the London branch is now sadly closed. Dominique Ansel Bakery London closed its doors in August 2020 due to the pandemic and lockdown.

It’s safe to say that if you’re on any sort of diet, leave it at the door. The bakery’s consistently busy, more so on the weekends. However, if you do visit during the week, there’s a good chance to get a table.
Once inside, the first thing you’ll notice is the wide-open kitchen and a warm ambience. An aroma of everything sweet, sugary and filling overtakes you, and your belly will start purring to be filled.
The best sugar rush
Given its global accolade, it’ll come as little surprise that the most popular item on the menu is the Cronut®. At Dominique Ansel Bakery, they do a new flavor each month, which raises the temptation to return.
Unfortunately, all the cronuts had run out by the time I arrived (2pm). That said, get there early to avoid pastry disappointment.
Instead, I chose one of the special Valentine’s Day patisserie, the ‘I love you berry much pavlova’.
A delicate, yet decadent, patisserie of meringue, strawberries, Mascarpone, ganache and strawberry jam. In short, it was heaven on a gold plate.
The portion may look small, but the quality's so good, that it was perfect for me.
A special hot chocolate
However, another showstopper here is the Blossoming Hot Chocolate. A bit more expensive than the standard, this hot chocolate isn’t like any other.
It’s made to the same recipe as the Chef’s Hot Chocolate, but with an added touch of a marshmallow flower. A pretty puff of white melts into the chocolate blossoming into a full flower.
Was it worth it? Absolutely, and once the marshmallow melts, it breaks into tiny pieces of marshmallow.

Other decadent pastries
If you haven’t yet reached your sugar peak, there are other items that may interest you. Frozen s’mores are made to order; a classic take on an American dessert.
There’s also the filthy rich Banoffee Paella, which is a twist on the British favorite pie. This version's served with an airy dulce de leche mousse inside. If you prefer your patisserie on the classic side, you can choose from a rainbow row of macarons.
There's a conservatory outdoor area in which you can sit in all year round. Even during my visit in winter, I found it warm enough beneath the outdoor heaters.
The backdrop of green foliage and large glass baubles on the ceiling add a romantic touch.
At Dominique Ansel Bakery London, the people come here to eat expertly-made patisserie. You won’t find lines of instagrammers outside scrambling to take a photo for social media, and leaving straight after.
They’re here for the mind-blowing cakes and pastries — and maybe to also try the Blossoming Hot Chocolate. It's one cafe that’s definitely for pastry-loving grown-ups.

Oh that pavlova looks super delicious, and so valentinish (if the term exists). I absolutely loved the cronut, so this would be my top pick for must visit dessert place when I visit London this summer. I have to say he’s a genius for inventing the cronut!
Unfortunately I never got to try it as they ran out! But yes, I went just before Valentine's Day, which is why all the desserts are heart/love-inspired!
I have a massive sweet tooth and visit London fairly often so how have I not heard of the Dominique Ansel Bakery until now?! The hot chocolate and the banoffee paella sound fantastic! I’ll have to look out for this next time I’m down

This is exactly the type of place I love to go when I travel! I wish I had known about the one in Tokyo when were there in November! I will have to remember this for next time We're in London. I had never heard of the Cronut either! I'll have to see how I can get a taste of one! I love sweets!

Well....talk about sheer decadence! I think I put on a few kilos just reading through this post! Why is it that everything that you love is just never any good for you? Well you have to let go and enjoy yourself sometime and I think you have found the perfect spot for that. Created by the world's best pastry chef? I was drooling even before that was mentioned...the photos convey how good it all looks (and no doubt tastes!). Will have to remember to try this out myself the next time I'm in the neighborhood.

I think I saw a feature on the Blossoming Hot Chocolate! Definitely something I wouldn't mind splurging a little bit to try, especially since it's gotten delicious reviews! I am all the time in Victoria when I travel to and from London to my home town and I will definitely make sure to stop by Dominique Ansel Bakery and taste their delicious looking cakes! The interior of the place looks great as well, definitely a great Instagram layout 🙂 There are so many cakes there that I would love to try, especially the pavlova you've had. It looks way too good to be eaten!

We just had our lunch and already craving for these delicious looking macarons and desserts. During our London trip, we did not get much time to explore the cafes and the bakeries but looks like we need to plan another trip only for these sweet delicacies. Wonderful review and coverage. I am very aware of Ansel, but have not as yet had the opportunity to try either the Cronut or any other of his creations. Save a lot of room! Everything I tried was so good, and I didn't eat anything else for the entire day as I was too full!

Mmmm just by the look at the photos and I am about to book a flight ticket to the closest Dominique Ansel bakery which happens to be in London. I would have a hard time choosing but then would probably come back each day to try everything.

I would definitely try out the Ansel Bakery, as it is run by winner chef. I was not knowing that the invention of Cronut has been done by this chef. I would love to have afternoon tea at this place, as it is very near to Buckingham Palace, having open kitchen and have many varieties of colorful cakes on their menu.
It's in a great location for seeing the top sights, but in a quiet street too. That said, it gets busy, so if you want to try the cronut, arrive sooner than later 🙂
I wonder how sweet can be the sweetest bakery, but I guess that you can eat a few of those delicious cakes and that's it. I have never been to London but I'd definitely go there at least to see these beautiful and colorful cakes. They really look awesome.

I always feel that apart from being absolutely yummy, food also needs to be presented beautifully for it to stand apart and allure people in. The pastries at Dominique Ansel Bakery look so amazing, I wouldn't be able to resist eating a couple in one go. And the Blossoming Hot Chocolate sounds superb, with the marshmallow flower. So cool that he's the same guy who created Cronuts, I've heard so much about them but never had the opportunity to try one!

Lisa, you are seriously tempting me to book a ticket to London right away! This place seems just perfect! I'd love to try that raspberry thing in the picture! Your article reminded me of a little bakery I used to visit when I was living in the city. It is called L'eto Café and it's in Soho. It is not so elegant as this one, but the entrance of the bakery is a huge window filled with desserts and pastries from the bottom to the top and I also remember they had the best mascarpone pancakes. Thanks for your suggestions, I will definitely keep them in mind for my next time in London <3

Is this some kind of paradise? I must truly say, here in Switzerland we have some excellent patisserie but this Dominique Ansel Bakery really seem to compete with the best of them. Just by looking at these marvelous photos I get hungry. If you would add a few more, I guess I would be already full 🙂
