My arrival at The Brehon Hotel Killarney was far different to when I arrived in Dublin.
Plenty of warm sunshine welcomed me as we landed at Kerry International Airport.
I knew I was back in Ireland as I watched acres of green pass me by from the backseat of the taxi.
Killarney is in the southwest of the country in County Kerry. The closest airport is Kerry International Airport, but you can also fly into Cork.
It’s literally a breath of fresh air once you step outside. The crisp Irish air and the breeze from the Atlantic is a welcome from the pollution and smog of London.
5 great reasons to stay at The Brehon Hotel Killarney
1. The Brehon location
With the passing scenery and sights demanding my full attention, I’d no idea we’d arrived at the hotel. A huge smile crept on my face when the taxi stopped outside.
The Brehon Hotel in Killarney made a good first impression on me and I was keen to see more. Floor-to-ceiling windows and plenty of surrounding land instantly makes this grand building stand out.
Inside The Brehon hotel Killarney
Roaring fireplaces with large stretch sofas welcome you as you step inside the lobby. It instantly creates the feeling of a home away from home, and is an ideal setting for autumn.
Couple this with classic colors of marbled creams and browns, and elegant yet subtle furnishings. All in all, I was happy this would be my home for the next few nights.
Taking a guided tour of the magnificent area is a must in Killarney. The locals are warm, friendly, and will have you laughing so hard, you'll want to book another. Booking a tour also means you get to see more of this beautiful part of Ireland.
How to reach The Brehon Hotel Killarney
The Brehon Hotel is located on Muckross Road — one of the main streets in town. It’s around 20 minutes to walk to the center, but it's worth doing to see the scenery along the way.
That, plus you’re bound to see some of the traditional jaunting cars en route. A unique way to visit the town, for me it's one of the best things to do in Killarney.
Local attractions include Killarney House and Gardens, Killarney National Park and St Mary’s Cathedral.
Muckross House, a 19th century mansion set among mountains and woodlands, is also worth visiting. However, you’ll need transportation to get there as it's a little further out of the way.

2. Rooms at The Brehon hotel
If you read other travelers’ reviews, there’s one recurring theme when singing the hotel’s praises: the room sizes.
I can confirm that the rooms are big. Mine was better suited for 2 people than for a solo person. What's more, the views from the room are even better when the sun's shining outside.
You'll sleep very well at The Brehon Hotel Killarney. I had a king bed with plenty of cushions and soft beddings and slept like a baby.
It was pretty surreal to see my name on the TV, though a nice touch, when I first entered the room. In the evening, a huge smile crept on my face upon seeing the tray of pastries left in the room.
The bathroom comes with bathtub, shower, plus all the hotel’s own brand goodies to use. Again, the bathroom’s generous in size, and has everything you need for your stay.
One thing that gets overlooked in many hotels is ironing facilities. At the Brehon Hotel, each room has its own iron and board to go with it. It was so useful especially as I was there for a conference and needed crease-free clothes.
Other notables include the fluffy robe and slippers — perfect if you want to try their spa, and free bottled water. This might sound odd, but not every boutique hotel offers complimentary water, so it’s worth mentioning.
3. The food at The Brehon Hotel
The food, what can I say about the food…? Well, a lot of good things actually. The Brehon Hotel serves up delicious eats, and reasonably priced too.
I ate dinner a few times in the Brehon Bar, simply because of the relaxed and quiet ambience.
Plenty of dining options at The Brehon Hotel Killarney
If dining with friends or family, I recommend trying the Danu restaurant. I didn’t get to eat there, but heard many excellent things from other hotel guests.
The Danu’s also the setting for where they serve breakfast. There's a ‘breakfast traffic light’ notice in the elevator, which helpfully lets you know the rush hour times in the morning.
Being in Ireland, you can expect all the good things that come at breakfast. Fried/scrambled eggs, bacon and sausages, and porridge and pancakes.
If your stomach can wait a bit longer, I suggest ordering something from the menu. The smoked salmon and eggs on a bagel will set you up for the day, as will the Irish porridge.

During my stay, I was fortunate to be able to experience the hotel's spa.
Along with a good-size swimming pool, the spa also offers a range treatments that'll leave you feeling renewed.

I can’t sing enough the praises of the staff at the Brehon Hotel, Killarney. From the spa staff to reception, they really go out of their way to ensure you enjoy your time.
The verdict
If it wasn’t obvious, I’d absolutely stay again at the Brehon Hotel Killarney. From the location to the rooms, facilities and hospitality, it has everything for a first-time traveler to Killarney.

Wow, I've actually been to this hotel! I went to Killarney for TBEX last year, and although I stayed down the road, I went here for drinks! It is a really special hotel, I must say! Seeing your pics makes me wish I'd stayed there!

Large rooms are so hard to find in Europe. Glad to know this one would work for my family! We are hoping to explore Ireland in the next few years and we'll keep the Brehon Hotel in mind!

This hotel looks so perfect! I actually just got back from Kerry few days ago and I went to Killarney for a day! I wish I saw this post earlier as I could go there for lunch! The food looks so good ! The room looks so nice and cozy and that view! That part of Ireland is so beautiful!

That's an incredibly cozy hotel. It's pretty cool because it is situated right in the middle of a wilderness. Thus, when you wake up, take a walk, or eat your dinner, you're surrounded by beautiful scenery. We would love to stay in this hotel.

I think more places should have the traffic light system - Although mainly I stay in hostels the odd times I stay in Hotels I prefer going down before or after the mad rush of people. I don't know what it is but brekky should be peaceful haha. Sorry waffling on there, the views look incredible too.

This is such a cute boutique hotel!!!!! I love how chic and luxurious the lobby and the room are but they also feel quite homey like I was visiting a rich friend's house hahaa. Guess I know where I'll be staying the next time I'm in Killarney!

I think I would just LOVE to stretch out in that entrance. It really does evoke a homey feeling and make you feel instantly at ease. Everything looks so warm and inviting and would make any visitor feel like a royal!

What a beautiful property! Even better that the food was good. Often times hotel food isn’t the best so it’s aleahs nice to have a good meal when you’re staying in one.

The hotel looks beautiful from the outside, but even more so on the inside. I love the spacious bathroom and the fact that there is good food. Anything with salmon is good in my book! But the spectacular views around the hotel is probably my favorite part.

Brehon Hotel looks like a perfect place to stay in Killarney. The room is looking really nice with so much comfy bed. I cannot imagine such a luxurious hotel in the country side. I will definitely will think about staying at Brehon when I will plan my visit to Killarney.

The Brehon Hotel looks like the perfect place to stay in Kilkarney. I like the idea of the traffic light system in the lift for busy breakfast times. I do prefer to eat my breakfast when it's quiet so this would be very useful for me. I mut say those chips from the Danu restaurant look delicious, I love pub chips!
