1 day at The Brehon Hotel Killarney Spa

Most people ask why I enjoy spas so much, and it’s places like The Brehon Hotel Killarney spa that I use to explain why.
After a busy day of traveling, the Brehon hotel Killarney is the coziest welcome to this gorgeous Irish town.
After checking in, I was keen to change into the fluffy robe and slippers, and get down to the lower ground floor.
This is where the hotel’s spa is located. Taking its name from the Angsana tree in Malaysia, you won't be surprised to read that the spa is full of eastern influence.
From the zen-like feel that greets you at the door to the treatment itself, you're guaranteed to leave feeling completely relaxed.
1 day at the Brehon Hotel Killarney Spa
Before your treatment begins, take a moment to relax in the aptly named Relaxation Room. Five lounge beds in a low soft light beckon you through its doors, and a calm atmosphere.
Needless to say, there's no talking here, though there's no official sign. Just take a note from fellow spa guests and enjoy the quiet, all the while underneath a cozy blanket.
The hotel's within walking distance to the main attractions in Killarney, like the Killarney National Park. Enjoy the warmth and humor of your very own local guide and in the company of like-minded people.
Highly-skilled therapists
My therapist was a delightfully friendly lady called Em. I think she was Thai, but I'm not 100% sure.
Wholly professional, Em led me to the treatment room and asked me about any problem areas.
Once the massage began. I knew straight away it was going to be good. If you want to know the sign of a good therapist, see if they meet these requirements:
- They ask sufficient questions before, during and after the massage
- Are attentive to your needs and make you feel relaxed
- Have a good technique, which they show through firm strokes and right level of pressure
- They always make sure the client is warm.
I could tell straight away that Em was highly skilled in the art of massage. Using a blend of ayurvedic oils, she worked on smoothing out the knots in problem areas.
By the end of the 30 minutes, I was gently awoken by the chime of a bell: the massage was sadly over.
Time to relax
After the massage ends, you're taken back to the relaxation room for some more down time. Once settled in your lounge chair, you’re brought a tray full of goodies.
I couldn’t get enough of the sumptuous ginger tea that comes in an eastern style teapot. Packed full of antioxidants with a teaspoon a bit of honey, it's the perfect way to end the treatment.

The Brehon Hotel Killarney Spa also has a generous sized pool, with separate areas with the powerful jet sprays. While there, take advantage of the herb sauna and the crystal steam room.
If you want to make your spa experience that more memorable, be brave and try the cold plunge pool, ice fountain and the Kubelducshe. It's the where ice cold water falls from the bucket above drenching every particle of your body.
One treatment I do highly recommend is the foot bath. Treat your behind to the heated bench and give your tootsies a well-deserved soak from shoes and socks.
Don’t forget to add the epsom salts to the water — you’ll find them in the little white bags on the side.
My verdict on the Brehon Hotel Killarney Angsana Spa
My time at the Angsana Spa, though brief, is one I would do again. The staff were nothing but welcoming, especially the spa supervisor, my therapist Em, and staff member Heather. She was incredibly helpful in telling me about the facilities, and even in assisting me with my photos. For that, I’m forever grateful.

This sounds wonderful and the note about always ensuring you are warm struck a chord with me. I bought my mum an hour long hot stone massage and she hated it because she was freezing THE WHOLE TIME! It was in Dec and she was the first appointment so the heating hadn't been on all night.

What kind of people wonder 'why' you like spas? I mean, why would one NOT like a spa? Its a day of pampering with such amazing treatments and an atmosphere of complete relaxation. I remember reading an earlier post of yours about a spa in Morocco and it was amazing, as is the one here in Killarney. The idea of ginger tea with goodies, in a lounge, after your massage, is OH SO COOL! I wonder why I don't go to spas more often!
I'm a complete spa addict, and honestly would go once a week if possible! I felt so relaxed here, and the ginger tea was unbelievably good!
After a long travel, Angsana Spa looks so relaxing for me. It is good that Em provided you a relaxed massage with proper pressure. I would try to remember this name Em. Also taking a cold plunge must be gr8 experience. After a soothing massage, serving of ginger tea with toasties is a perfect ending to a relaxed massage services.

We always try to get spa treatment while we travel. This spa looks luxurious! I'd love a foot bath. Besides the spa treatment, this spa has so many facilities for the guest! A pool, a sauna, and a steam room? You can easily spend half a day here!

I totally agree with you: you can definitely tell if you're about to get a great massage when your masseuse makes sure that you're warm. I once had a massage while almost-cold and it wasn't the best experience. I also love the stone mosaic decor of Brehon. It's beautiful and it looks like you had a great experience!

I am not much of a spa person but once in a while I do enjoy massages. Especially after a tiring trek, I like to get massages. I am glad that she interacted with you before the massage. I love the ginger tea that they serve in spas. I had a fantastic one at a resort in India.

What better way to relax and unwind than with a massage in a beautiful spa. Although facilities are important, the most critical has to be how good the person is that gives you the massage - and it looks like you did well getting Em! The rest of the facilities just look fabulous. You could really be spoiled here!

I absolutely love a spa and this one looks luxurious. I have been to some of the best Spas in Miami and I can tell I would absolutely love this Spa. It is the best feeling to get a massage and relaxation treatment right after a long flight to help feel more rejuvenated and ready for all the exploration. The Kilarney Spa at the Brehon Hotel looks so luxurious. It's good that Em gives you a massage at the desired pressure, I prefer a softer massage. The pool looks very relaxing but what I'd like to try is the cold plunge pool, that's something I've never tried before!

The Brehon Hotel Killarney Spa is a place worth trying. I can barely take my mind off such wonderful experience you had at such a beautiful place with such surroundings. Now Em is the big deal, the best massueus everyone is looking for. I’d also insist Em attend to me when I visit.
Oh you must, she was so good and very attentive! The scenery there is gorgeous, and you really feel detached from the world, if only for a short while.
I have only been to a few spas but I admit that the experience is worth it. I love massages and hot tea afterwards. One of my favorites was a lovely mint tea at a hammam in Jordan.
That sounds divine! Mint tea is delicious, especially when you have it in middle eastern countries, just tastes more authentic!
