A one-to-one with Wowtickets.com CEO

Dmitrijus Konovalovas is an online travel entrepreneur and the Wowtickets.com CEO and co-founder.

Dmitrijus and I met at a Travel Blog Exchange (TBEX) conference in Jerusalem in 2017 and connected over our love of travel and what the future of traveling could look like.

In this exclusive interview, Dmitrijus tells me about his new venture and why you should keep a close eye on Wowtickets.com for your next trip.

L: Hi Dmitrijus, thank you for your time today. It’s been a while since we last saw each other at TBEX. What have you been up to since we last met?

D: I still follow the TBEX community and believe there is so much that businesses like ours can do for travel bloggers and travel content creators. It’s actually one of the reasons why I have co-founded a new travel company. 

L: Tell me more about it

D: We’re building a new travel booking platform called Wowtickets.com, you should check it out. The idea is to help people around the world to find their new destination and best option of getting there. We’re updating the website and app daily with new features. The ultimate vision is to combine inspiration and reasons to travel with the best price and itinerary. 

Finding the most affordable flights is super easy on our website. We compile fares and flight information from various airlines, providing intuitive comparison so that our customers can select the best option for them, be it the cheapest, the fastest or simply the most convenient.

Understanding the value of flexibility in the post-pandemic world is key; that’s why our flexible booking options allow users to freely explore alternate dates and nearby airports, ensuring they find the best possible itinerary for their needs.

To put it simply, Wowtickets.com aims to improve travel planning by making it easier, faster and cheaper. 

L: And are you still working alongside/supporting travel bloggers?

D: Yes absolutely. We’re introducing a dedicated section on the website that will feature travel bloggers. We also have extensive plans to collaborate with anyone who can create valuable content and help our customers to discover places. 

L: Let’s put business aside for the moment. Do you make time for yourself? What are your holiday plans for this year? 

D: Not as much time as I would love to, but yes. We’re going to the French Riviera this summer. The Côte d'Azur on the southeastern coast of France is our favorite. I try to take my family there every year as it offers a wide range of activities for kids. You can explore the beautiful beaches like Théoule-sur-Mer or Cannes, and enjoy swimming, sunbathing and building sandcastles with your little ones. We love to stroll along La Croisette in Cannes, Promenade des Anglais in Nice or explore the charming old town of Antibes. My kids love nature so we also take them to the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco.

Generally we love Provence. It's such a picturesque region and a fun place to take a road trip and explore places like Avignon, Arles and Aix-en-Provence. We like to visit the Pont du Gard, an impressive Roman aqueduct, or the Palais des Papes in Avignon.

If you’re into outdoor activities, the Luberon or the Gorges du Verdon is a must visit. Oh, and don't forget to savor the local cuisine by trying some traditional Provençal dishes.

L: What tips/advice would you give other travelers?

D: I’m a big fan of saving money anywhere I can. It’s handy in this day and age when the cost of living has soared. 

When booking a flight, here are some tips you can use to save money:

• Be flexible with your travel dates: prices for flights can vary significantly depending on the day and time of travel. If you have some flexibility in your schedule, consider searching for flights across a range of dates to find the cheapest options. Sometimes flying on weekdays or during off-peak hours can result in lower fares.
• Compare prices and different itineraries: don't settle for the first fare you come across.
• Sign up for fare alerts: many travel websites and airlines offer fare alerts or price notifications. Sign up for these services to receive email notifications when prices drop for your desired destination. This way, you can catch the best deals as soon as they become available.
• Be open to alternative airports: consider flying into or out of alternative airports near your destination. Sometimes nearby airports offer lower fares, and you can save money by being flexible with your arrival or departure points.
• Travel light and avoid baggage fees: many airlines charge fees for checked baggage, so try to pack light and stick to carry-on luggage if possible. Familiarize yourself with the baggage policies of different airlines and avoid unnecessary fees by packing efficiently.
• Book well in advance or last minute: booking in advance can sometimes yield lower fares, especially for popular travel periods. However, last-minute deals can also be available if you're flexible and willing to take a spontaneous trip. Keep an eye out for flash sales or special promotions that airlines occasionally offer.
• Consider alternative routes: sometimes booking a flight with a layover or opting for connecting flights can be cheaper than a direct route. While it may add some travel time, it can help you save money on your ticket.
• Clear your browser cookies: some travel websites may use cookies to track your search history and raise prices based on demand. To avoid this, clear your browser cookies or use incognito mode when searching for flights.

Remember that prices can fluctuate, so it's essential to monitor fares regularly and be prepared to book when you find a good deal.
