10 best things to buy on Amazon for Italy
Last updated on January 1st, 2026.
When planning your Italy holiday, it’s easy to forget some essential things to pack for your vacation.
And I'm not talking about bringing an extra bikini or your favorite sundress that you have in 3 different colors.
I'm referring to items that you can use on your travels to Italy and which you can buy on Amazon.
The beauty of this post is that you’ll be ready for your trip, plus you can use these products for future travels.
As a local, I want to share my picks on the 10 best things to buy on Amazon for Italy. The website that has everything, Amazon has plenty of practical items for visiting Italy and at reasonable prices too.
An ideal post for first-time visitors, use this guide to help plan your trip to Italy.
10 best things to buy on Amazon for Italy
1. International power plug adapter
Aside from my passport, bringing the right adapter whenever I travel is a top priority. Essential for charging my phone and laptop, it’s also a necessity for charging my other electronic goods.
In Italy we use 2 types of plugs. As I wrote in how to travel to Italy from the US, the most common is a 2-prong plug. The other has 3 prongs. This VINTAR international power plug adapter comes in a 2 pack, and it also has 3 handy USB ports.
The advantages
Compact in size and lightweight, the adapter can simultaneously charge 6 devices at the same time.
VINTAR also has the 3-prong plug that you’ll find across many places in Italy. The 4-in-1 adapter has 2 USB ports and can charge 4 devices simultaneously. You can re-use this plug works in other countries like Cuba, Chile and Uruguay.
Personally, I'd say that the 2-prong plug is sufficient for visiting Italy. One of the 10 best things to buy on Amazon for Italy don’t forget to buy one before traveling.
2. Portable charger
An item that’s become a travel essential, having a portable charger is a game changer.
Gone are the days of worrying about your battery dying while you’re out enjoying the sights. With this portable charger, you can rest easy knowing that your electronic devices will last throughout the day.
Super slim at just 0.5in, this portable charger can charge 3 devices at the same time. What’s more, its 3A high-speed charge can charge smartphones up to 78% in 1 hour.
Available in 4 fun colors, it’s one of my 10 best things to buy on Amazon for Italy.
3. Rain poncho
A rain poncho may not be the first thing that comes to mind when visiting Italy but hear me out.
For one, the weather in Italy is becoming more unpredictable. In May 2023, many parts of the country experienced torrential rains with severe flooding in some areas. We experienced this ourselves on our trip to the Amalfi Coast and the rain was unlike anything we’d seen before.
Because of this, it’s hard to say for sure when is the best time to visit Italy. While the weather remains decent, you just never know. Having a disposable rain poncho ready means you can still explore the sights while staying relatively dry.

4. Travel scarf wrap with UV protection
I love everything about this travel scarf wrap with UV protection. For one, its large size (68x35in) makes it versatile for any situation. Use it as a blanket to keep warm from the air conditioning on the plane or as a chic evening shawl.
In Italy, a wrap like this will also come in handy when visiting attractions like churches. Like we experienced in Palermo, people were asked to cover their bare arms and shoulders before entering.
Anyone that didn’t have anything to cover up accordingly would have to buy a poncho.
One of my 10 best things to buy from Amazon for Italy, the wrap also comes with UPF 50 sun shield. Perfect for protecting your skin from harsh UV rays and pesky mosquitoes, it’s an item you’ll use again and again. Speaking of mosquitoes….
5. Off! Clean feel repellent spray
I have a love/hate relationship when it comes to summertime in Italy. While I enjoy the long sunny days and warm nights, I detest the mosquitoes that come with the season.
It’s why I always have a bottle of mosquito repellent to hand. This Off! Clean feel repellent spray is a good choice to bring to Italy.
Fragrance free, non-sticky and lasts up to 8 hours, it’s effective at protecting against mosquitoes, ticks and biting flies.
But, if you do get bitten by mosquitoes, there’s only one remedy (for me) that’s effective at healing bites.
6. After Bite Xtra
After Bite Xtra insect bite treatment is a godsend for relieving itching and skin irritation caused by insect bites.
The gel formula contains antihistamine which provides immediate relief. Packaged in a travel-size friendly tube, you can also use the treatment on children (aged 2 and up).
For me, it’s one of the 10 best things to buy on Amazon for Italy and for home too.
7. Water sports shoes
If you travel to Italy in the summer, chances are you may visit one of our many beaches.
Be it in Sicily, the beaches in Sardinia or the beaches in Genoa, the choice is plentiful.
And one item that can come in very handy is a pair of these water sports shoes. Lightweight, and made with breathable fabric with a smooth neck design, they’re good to have in your luggage.
The shoes would have been useful during our road trip in south Sardinia and our visit to Isola delle Correnti.
If you love being by the sea and exploring remote beaches, these shoes are a handy item to have.
8. Digital luggage scale
Say addio to any anxiety as you approach the bag drop desk at the airport with this digital luggage scale.
Visiting Italy without buying anything is damn near impossible and temptation is everywhere. This luggage scale makes sure you stay within your baggage allowance and avoid paying any overweight fees.
Small, lightweight and convenient to carry, the scale produces different weight units in a high-quality LCD display.
Easy to use, simply attach the handle around the handle of your luggage and the scale will do the rest.
Incredibly versatile, you can use the digital luggage scale for other non-travel uses such as weighing fruits and vegetables.
9. Italian flash cards
Pass the time at the airport and on the plane by brushing up on your Italian. These Italian flash cards are a fun, yet educational, way to learn some common Italian words and phrases.
Each card has phonetic pronunciations and English translations and come in a portable box that’s ideal for travel.
They’re a fun first step to helping you and your family learn Italian.
10. Anti-theft mini shoulder bag
It’s never great talking about the negative aspects of traveling but unfortunately it happens. And, every year, many unsuspecting tourists become the target of several scams in Italy.
But one way you can lessen the likelihood is by using something like this anti-theft mini shoulder bag. The crossbody style ensures a secure fit and that your belongings are always in front in clear view.

Standout features include slash-resistant shoulder straps, body, side and bottom panels as well as locking zippers.
Inside the bag are RFID blocking card and passport slots and an attached key clasp with LED light.
Available in different colors, the anti-theft bag is unisex and is also water resistant.
One of my 10 best things to buy on Amazon for Italy, it’s a great investment for frequent travelers.

Thank you! The ponchos are really helpful 🙂
I am always that person that gets bitten but I always forget to take bug spray etc, so definitely an essential. We can't go anywhere without our portable chargers, they're so handy x

It's very unique and so versatile too 😀
The first two items, I bring wherever I go because I'm never sure about their outlets and I always need backup chargers for emergency. The UV protection scarf and the anti-theft shoulder bag are such a great idea!!
I'm exactly the same. They are so ideal for travel to Italy and elsewhere too 😀
Love 3: the scarf with UV protection, the flash cards, and the anti-theft bag!!!
The bag is so useful for traveling and so unassuming too!
The wrap is a multiuse product that would definitely come in handy. I remember when we went to the beach in Italy and the winds were pretty strong. I used one to keep the sand off of me.
Yes exactly! And it works perfectly as a blanket and an evening wrap 😀
